National Science Foundation project with West Aurora School District

April 29, 2026

National Science Foundation project with West Aurora School District connects schools with researchers and communities and builds scientific understanding

Professor Pi-Sui Hsu’s collaboration with West Aurora School district was recently highlighted at the West Aurora district science fair. This project demonstrates how reciprocal, respectful community engagement creates benefits for the university, school district and West Aurora community and families.

Professor Hsu’s project is focused on enhancing the teaching of scientific argumentation. The project is funded by a National Science Foundation Grant and is grounded in a Research-Practice Partnership framework, which emphasizes long-term collaboration, mutual learning and co-construction of knowledge between K-12 teachers and NIU researchers.
